Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what Refined ("Refined", "we", "us") does with your information when you use the Refined mobile app (the "App"). Refined is operated by Build With Tori LLC.

What we collect, and what we do not

Video and photos — stays on your device

Video you import or record, camera frames used for green screen, background photos you choose, thumbnails, waveforms and your exported files are all processed on your device. This content is never transmitted to us or to anyone else by the App. If you enable the option to save recordings to your photo library, those files are written to your device only.

Audio — sent for transcription

To produce a transcript, the App extracts the audio track from your video and sends it through our server to AssemblyAI, which transcribes it. If you turn on audio enhancement, the audio is also sent to Auphonic, which processes the sound. Our server passes this data through and does not store it.

Transcript text — sent for edit suggestions

To suggest cuts, the App sends the transcript text (words and timestamps, not audio or video) through our server to Anthropic, which returns which words to cut. Your transcript stays on your device with the project; our server does not store it.

Usage analytics

We use PostHog to understand how the App is used and to find failures. We collect event names and timings (for example, that a transcription started and how long it took), app version, device model, operating system, and whether the build came from TestFlight or the App Store. Analytics events are tied to a random identifier generated on your device, not to your name or email. We never send your video, audio, transcript content, or the text of your edits to analytics.

Support messages you send us

If you send feedback from inside the App, we receive your message and any contact details you include, delivered by email through Resend. We use it only to answer you and to fix what you reported.

Purchases and subscriptions

Subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple. We never receive or store your card number, billing address, or Apple ID password. We receive confirmation that a valid subscription exists, together with an anonymous purchase identifier, so the App can unlock paid features. We may use RevenueCat to manage subscription status on our behalf.

Sign in with Apple (optional)

If we offer sign-in and you choose to use it, Apple sends us a unique identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email address. Apple's Hide My Email feature lets you share a private relay address instead of your real one. Signing in is optional and is not required to edit videos or to subscribe.

Why we are allowed to use it

Where the UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract, to deliver the editing features you asked for; our legitimate interests, to keep the App working, diagnose failures and prevent abuse; your consent, where we ask for it, such as access to your camera, microphone or photo library; and legal obligation, where the law requires us to act.

Who we share it with

We share only what is described above, only with the providers that make the App work: AssemblyAI (transcription), Auphonic (audio enhancement), Anthropic (edit suggestions), PostHog (analytics), Resend (support email), Apple and RevenueCat (subscriptions), and Expo, which hosts the server that these requests pass through. Each acts as our processor and is not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to investigate a violation of our Terms. If Refined is ever sold or merged, information may transfer as part of that transaction; we will say so before it takes effect.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are used in California law.

How long we keep it

Our servers do not retain your audio, transcripts, or video; those requests pass through and are discarded. Your projects, transcripts and edits are kept on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App. Analytics events are retained by PostHog for up to twelve months. Support emails are kept for as long as we need them to answer you.

The App does not back up your work. If you delete the App or lose your phone, your projects cannot be recovered by us.

International transfers

Our providers are based in the United States, so information may be processed there. Where required, transfers rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

Your rights and choices

You can revoke camera, microphone and photo access at any time in the iOS Settings app; some features will stop working. You can delete a project in the App, and you can remove everything by deleting the App.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict processing, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because we hold very little about you and it is tied to a random device identifier rather than your identity, we may need extra information to locate your records. Write to us at the address below and we will respond within the time the law allows. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.

Children

Refined is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Security

Data in transit is encrypted using HTTPS, and API credentials are held server-side rather than in the App. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we design to hold as little of your data as possible.

Changes

If we change this Policy we will update the date above and, for material changes, tell you in the App. Continuing to use Refined after a change means you accept the updated Policy.
